The Meaning of the Hebrew Word Torah with Special Reference to Its Use in the Psalms

Abstract

In general, God’s torah is his instruction or teaching. But torah also has some narrow meanings. Torah can refer to specific ordinances and groups of regulations. Torah can refer to the instructions God gave Moses on Mt. Sinai. Some uses of the word reflect the general meaning of torah: God’s instruction or teaching. Other uses demonstrate that torah can even refer to the gospel. When we look at the Psalms we see that the word torah is used in a variety of ways, both in a broad and narrow sense.
