A Comparative Study of the Principles of Confession and Absolution in the Format of Our Lutheran Liturgy
Abstract
Professor Tiefel presented this paper to the Michigan District Pastor-Teacher Conference in Bowling Green, Ohio, June 10, 1987. He studies the history of confession and absolution in the light of the development of the Christian Worship hymnal. Although he spends some time addressing how issues, such as the Lapsi and the 30 years war, affected the general confession and absolution, he mostly examines Luther’s principles in the matter and the effect of Lutheranism in America (such as Muhlenburg) on the liturgy.
