    Abstract
This comprehensive history traces the development of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Muskegon, Michigan, from its founding in 1923 through 2008. Initially established in Muskegon Heights, the congregation faced early challenges, including the dismissal of its first pastor, Rev. A. Zuberbier. Under Rev. A.E. Hoenecke’s leadership, Grace flourished, becoming self-sustaining and debt-free by the mid-1940s. The church relocated to Shettler Road in 1959, establishing a daughter congregation and later a Christian Day School. Financial struggles in the 1980s and 1990s led to the school’s closure and the sale of the teacherage. The congregation endured pastoral transitions and internal challenges, including the resignation of Rev. Leroy Dux in 1992. Despite setbacks, Grace remained committed to gospel ministry, launching a weekday school and completing a major building project in 2006. The essay includes detailed records, maps, and constitutional documents, offering a rich portrait of Grace’s enduring mission and resilience. —Abstract generated by Microsoft Copilot (GPT-4)
